Set within Oregon’s rolling wine country, this retreat draws its inspiration directly from the vineyard landscape. The massing of the home aligns with the long, rhythmic furrows of grapevines, extending the geometry of the land into the architecture itself. From its placement, the house frames sweeping views of the Cascade Range and the patchwork of surrounding vineyards.
The program is distilled to the essentials necessary for a respite from the hectic nature of everyday life: sleeping, dining, and gathering. Each function is articulated with clarity and restraint, allowing the focus to remain on the experience of living in dialogue with the land. A central exterior dogtrot serves as the primary organizational armature of the project, providing an open-air room that welcomes guests, hosts meals, and mediates between the more private sleeping quarters.
The material palette reflects a utilitarian honesty. Corrugated metal siding nods to the agricultural vernacular of the region, while floor-to-ceiling windows dissolve the threshold between interior and landscape. The result is a dwelling at once rugged and refined, deeply rooted in its environment yet pared down to its essential purpose of providing respite.
